Preparing for Our Visit

Canine Bed Bug Detection will inspect your residence or commercial property for bed bugs using specially trained canines. Our canines are trained to detect the presence of live bed bugs and/or viable bed bug eggs. Our canines and their handlers need your full cooperation for an accurate and timely inspection.

To ensure the safety of our canines and handlers, and allow for the highest possible accuracy, please follow the checklist below.  If you have any questions please contact us online or call 608-882-1508.

Prepare your search areas accordingly before the arrival of the handler team. This checklist will be reviewed before any searches can take place.

The canine handler will first assess the areas to be searched if applicable.

Any pets need to be removed to an area not involved in the search.

Toys of any sort, pet food, human food, litter boxes, beds, cages, water and all medications can not be accessible to the bed bug detection canine. In order to keep the dog focused these items must be removed from the areas being searched.

Noise and human distraction must be minimized to create the most effective search environment for the handler team.

Air conditioners, heaters and all fans must be turned off 30 minutes prior to the handler team's arrival. All windows need to be closed as well.

Extinguish all smoking materials within the home 2 hours prior to the inspection. This includes any air freshener products such as plug-ins.

The handler will search the room “As is” and will not move items during their inspection. If there is a specific area/item you want searched, it needs to be fully accessible upon our arrival.

Confirm no chemical treatments have taken place 30 days prior to the inspection.

In order to keep the dog focused, any socializing must wait until after the search is complete.

Remove all rodent and insect traps or poison stations.

Pull bed sheets out from under mattress to expose mattress seams.

If the dogs alert to the presence of live bed bugs and/or viable eggs during the inspection, the accompanying handler will visually inspect to confirm bed bugs. After the inspection, the handler will report back any findings with the client and recommend any services or treatments that may be needed.

Our dogs are trained to detect bed bugs and are far more accurate than human-eye test. They can inspect a room in minutes with visual confirmation from their handler. We are certified through the Wisconsin Pest Control Association and the National Entomology Scent Detection Canine Association. If you think you have bed bugs contact us online or by phone at (608) 882-1508.
